"The numbers are telling you a story. Are you listening?" - Christeen Era, Core Growth Strategies

, I've been talking about calculating the ROI your website should generate for you based on the investment you've spent. If you haven't used it already, you can play with it here.

If you're like most of my clients, when you get your calculations back, it's a big number. Most people shake their heads thinking, "I'm not even close. How do I close the gap to get the ROI I deserve?"

Let's take this one step at a time.

I put the quote at the beginning up there because I heard Christeen say, "the numbers are telling you a story." She helps lawn care and landscaping businesses get their finances right, and I'm talking gross profit as high as 65%! That's legit.

When I talked to Christeen about the story your numbers are telling, she said something that floored me.

She said, "Your numbers really tell you everything you need to know about your business. They tell you exactly what your business needs - hire employees, invest in equipment, initiate layoffs, fire certain customers..."

As we talked through different scenarios, it became pretty apparent to me that websites are VERY similar.

👉  If you track the numbers, they will tell you exactly what you need to do with your website to make it give you a return on your investment.

Now, let's bring this back to you and your website, . We walked through the ROI you should be getting based on the money you put in.

Reminder: putting more money into your website does not = a return on investment. It just equals more money you're owed by your website!

I am NOT an advocate of throwing good money after bad. We need to focus on where we spend the money to make sure we get you the return you deserve.

That all starts with tracking the numbers.

🦶 So, here's your FIRST STEP: Track the numbers that will tell you the story you need to hear.

If your wondering what numbers to track, start with this list:
→ Monthly Traffic: how many people are visiting my website each month?
→ Average Session Duration: how long are people hanging out when they visit?
→ Pages per Session: how many pages do they browse when they visit?
→ Acquisition: from where is my traffic coming to land on my page? social? organic search? ads? direct?
→ Lead Generation: How many people are downloading my lead generator on my site?
➝ Engagement: How many people click my call to action buttons on my site? and how many people click my call to action buttons in my lead generator nurture emails?
➝ Conversions: How many sales am I making from people who have downloaded my lead generator and clicked a call to action on my site or from my lead generator nurture emails?

Which all leads to... HOW do you track that information? You can track all of those numbers in Google Analytics (GA) by installing the GA code on your website and setting up conversions in GA.

Google Analytics is NOT the only tool you can use to track these numbers. However, it is a great one to use, and it's not as difficult as it seems. I promise!

So, take that first step, and start tracking today. If you're already tracking, you're ahead of the curve! 🕺

Soon I'll talk you through the story some of those numbers might be telling you. But for now, just keep an eye on them. Because we all know, what gets measured gets managed. And we need to start measuring first.
